Oriana van Praag is a journalist and photographer from Caracas, Venezuela. She is a member of The New Yorker's editorial staff and a graduate of Brown University. Prior to The New Yorker, she was a senior associate at the Americas Division of Human Rights Watch, where she contributed to reporting on Cuba and Venezuela. She has also conducted research on migration and internal displacement for the Wilson Center's Latin American Program and the Colombian organization Dejusticia. Her writing has appeared in publications including The New Yorker and Americas Quartely. She speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
